Default RE: hunting sidearm preference, Auto or revolver?

Greets,
While everyone has made good and valid posts, some are missing my question. I wanted advice for a sidearm for protection, if needed, and killshots when I screw up ( hopefully never but it already happened once ) so with that in mind, it should be small enuff to carry in the feild without undue discomfort, large enuff to get the job done in one shot at close quarters, and yet still small enuff that it can be rapidly deployed ( ie I dont wanna get mauled trying to unlimber a .485 hand cannon with a ten inch barrel... is their even such a gun LOL)
Any how, that said, tanks for the advice all, and keep coming with it as it will be some time before I have the funds for this purchase. I am teetering between the .357 and a good .44mag. Since I am used to an auto with a double action firts shot, it does need to be a DA ( hate to become luch cause I forgot to cock the darned thing! )
again thanks to all and good, and safe , hunting.
Terry
