Default RE: Doe decoy's

Used it during the chasing phase, early November.

I saw bucks chasing does and wanted to give them a doe that wouldn't run.

We used a shot out McKenzie target. With some paint, it looked pretty good. White on belly, around tail, ears. Glossy black eyes and nose. Drilled a hole in the rear and inserted a 35mm film canister with a cotton ball soaked in doe-in-heat scent.

This was quite a few years ago.

It was heavy and akward to carry. We usually hunted from the ground, back in the weeds from the edge of a field.

If you see bucks chasing does in a field in late afternoon, get there early and set it up the next day, maybe a cottonball with some doe-in-heat.

When they come in, their full attention is on that decoy.

My father also had one of those Flambeau decoys that is a bedded deer. It folds up.

Anyway he set it up and put a few cotton balls, with scent, under it.

Had a buck run up to it and touch noses with it. As if greeting a live deer. Well the decoy lifted up and almost rolled over. He said the buck just jumped back and looked at it. It made my dad laugh, the way the buck looked puzzled.

I haven't used one for a few years but they do work if conditions are right.
