RE: Winchester 100 (308)
I hear ya on not wanting to carry it. My dream is to find an '88 and a '100 in "decent" shape, maybe slightly marred stock, a few bare spots on the metal, but functionally perfect. Then I would feel ok about carrying them to my hearts content. Trouble is I think I'll have to pay a minimum of $750 for either of the models and then only if I find somebody that isn't astute about these gems.
I have a stable of 6.5 X 55's and one 7 X 57, but the .284 just has the punch and enough slippery-ness (can I use that word??) to be a near perfect round for everything from coyotes to elk, with the right situation. But in the lever (maybe even a '99 Savage!) it would be pretty smooth!
