You are absolutely right about the 7-08 and the Kimber 84M. My 7-08 is a browning, but I have a 84M in 308, and it is absolutely the finest rifle I have ever (and probably will ever) owned. Mine is a classic, not select grade. Good choice in caliber andrifle!
