In my opinion if you are going to try and spook them a way, like throwing things, making goofy noises, yelling or hitting them with a seat cushion you might as well just climb down and walk past them. The way I look at it spooked is spooked.
I have a doe that comes in my yard pretty much every evening and morning. We go out and take pictures of it and look at it. If we get too close it stomps the ground and runs a way. It comes right back the next or day after.
My girlfriend says they stand in the empy lot next to us and watch her smoke at night.
My hunting partner said he has had this happen to him severaly times: After shooting a deer with his bow and field dressing it he will have several deer walk up within 20-40 yards and watch him.
I have shot a deer with my inline muzzle loader at 80 yards before from a blind. I put a small coffee can of corn on the ground when I hunt to stop them. After I shot one deer and was waiting to get down and go get it another came up and starting eating the rest of the corn. Corn covered with blood from the other deer I might add. That happened to be laying dead not 40 yards away!
I don't think deer are very smart, paranoid yes, smart not so much

. I would love to see a study on their intelegence and memory span.
