RE: scrape question??
I would say he is using it at night, as well. We locate lots of scrapes along raod allowance, near farms, etc but they are usually made from bed to food or vice versa and largely under darkness. You are best to try and locate the deers bedding areas and food sources. Then try and position yourself in the transition areas between these two areas. More than likely you'll find more scrapes and rublines that he will be using during daylight hours. As rut approaches he will range more freely during daylight locating hot does, the tricks is be in these areas.
Now if this area is in fact right near bedding areas and on the way to food, I would try and get to the area closest to the bed without spooking the deer. If possible find his rubline and hunt that area, it more than likely is on a natural travel route and he'll be around.
