RE: SlickTrick Broadhead failure? (pics & long)
"I don't think it was the leathility of the head - it was the luck of that shot - the deer I lost had the arrow positioned in nearly the exact same spot - this time I just go lucky & cut something."
Huntmup,
My comments were not limited to the experiences that you've shared as I know a fella who has taken 8 deer this year so far with the Slick Trick and he reports no deflection issues but a few of the hits were marginal. He reports that the recovery distances have been on balance shorter than with the previous broadhead that he was using. His only observation is that he would like for the head to be a little heavier and will switch to the 125 grain when they become available. One other thing, just because I suggest another explanation to your observations does not imply that I'm dismissing off hand what you're presenting. Like many here I consider myself a student of deer hunting with archery tackle and while I remain cautious regarding your conclusions, there is no doubt that I have benefited a good bit from your presentation. It has defintely got me thinking about deflection and broadhead design.
In the next ten weeks I'll get out there maybe 25-30 times and all of that for one shot. I may not get that shot but if I do, I need to make that shot. I take this stuff very seriously, so if I seem anal it's not directed at you.
Take Care.
