If you handload, or use one of the heavy commercial .45/70 loads now available, there really is no comparison at all between the .45/70 and the .35 Rem.!!! The .45/70 is in an entirely different category. Although both are relatively short-range propositions, a heavy .45/70 load is plenty adequate for all North American game and most things in Africa, perhaps except for rhino, elephant and Cape Buffalo!! Some would argue that it is adequate for these too, with the right bullets!!
