Default RE: .35 rem. or .45-70

here i would go with the 45-70 ammo is as easy if not easer to find as the 35.

i have used both with the 35 i realy could not tell the differne between it and the 30-30.

the 45-70 has inpressed me alot. all game droped quickly. hogs\deer

from what i have been told in the handloading books there are 4 levels of loads for the 45-70.
(1) black powder loads
(2) smokless loads that are equal to bp loads and are safe in all guns in good condision.
(3) loads that are disined for the new podution leaver action.
(4) loads made for modern singshots

the +p loads in factorry ammo comes from garret, bufflo bore, and cor-bon ammo companys
some of the loads use hard cast bullets up to 540gr
they are sutile for any game on the planet. "according to the ammo maker"
Phil spangbir "writer for G@A mag. use them on cape bufflo.

i normaly use the stander load wih 300 and 350 gr hp. i normaly hunt deer and they work fine.
for bear and if i was going on a perpously hog only hunt i would go with the old Rem 405gr load or one of the +p loads close to 500gr.

the reasion i dont normaly use the +p is 2 fold. 1. i normaly hunt deer so the extra punch isent needed.
2 and out of a 5lbs single shot that 510 gr load HURTS.

the 35 may have a little range i know of people pusshing it out to 200yd. i concider 150 max for the 45-70 and all my shots have been under 100yds.

now with that all being said you may wont to compare some other cartages. the 444,45colt +P ,44mag and the new 450 m.
the 450 is bacily nothing but a +P 45-70 with a belt insted of a rim.

the 444 is in the same class as the 45-70 but has a tad avantage in seinal dincity with the same bullet weiht. .429 vs .458

the +P 45colt and 44 are very close espicaly loaded with 300gr bullets
they dont have quite the punch. there bigest avantage is if you wont a rifle handgun combo. and that 44mag ammo is neraly everywhere.

hope this helped
