Perhaps if you could tell us what kind of terrain/cover you will be hunting in, and what kind of shots you expect. In close cover a .35 Rem is a good gun, as is the 45-70 (with handloads), open areas/long shots call for a 270 or maybe a 6mm Mag. Good all around guns include 30-06(my fav), 308 WM, 7mm mag, the list goes on. First you have to think about what kind of shots you will be getting, then narrow the list down, then see which gun you feel the most comfortable with.
