Ohio is definitely not the premier bird state. But we have a few. Some areas such as Deer Creeck Wildlife Area are being managed for wild birds (no more pen raised releases). A friend of mine told me about 6 flushes he had with his Springer last week. A coworker of mine said he flushed 16 roosters on the back of his 5 acres (Circleville area) this past Tuesday, almost all at once. I went to Dillon Wildlife Area on opening day this year. We took 5 roosters between the 3 of us without a dog (my Lab was sick). Footwork is the key. Get on private land if at all possible. For me it is mostly clubs, more birds there but way too expensive to go every weekend. This is a link to ODNR maps for anyone interested...
