LOL..your post brings back so many memories. The first time I hung one of those I looked like the perverbial monkey w/ the perverbial football, if you know what I mean!! Just takes some practice. Work at ground height a few times, till you figure out how it locks on the tree. Then maybe put a step or 2 in and try it on the steps. Don't forget to use your harness. It won't take long and you'll have it.
