If the government makes money off from it you won't see it go. It may get more expensive, but it won't go. The only way they would away with it is if the deer population became dangerously low. And then they would work on a way to re-introduce them like they did turkeys where I live.

PETA can whine and moan all they want, but unless they come up for a way for the government to replace those funds and help keep the population in check I don't see it happening. It's a win win situation for the government.
