It probably wouldn't hurt to spray the vegetation anyway. Just put a piece of PVC pipe over the tree before you spray around it. As long as Roundup doesn't get on foliage you are ok. If nothing else, there won't be vegetation around the treeto provide cover for mice and/or rabbits.
