RE: Bullet weight for Elk
"R_B_H, come on get real."
This debate is getting a little old but for the record shot placement is important but its NOT everything. Of course if you hit the heart the animal will drop everytime but anybody that claims they can hit the heart on every shot is full of sh@#! It doesn't get any more real than that.
I'll give you that you have to hit a vital area you can't just shoot from your hip. But you have to have a bullet that can withstand hitting the bone structure in the animal you're shooting at. A solid bullet will go through the shoulder blade and have enough weight retention to keep going through the vitals. A weak or light will break apart and only make a big bull three-legged and coyote food cause you'll never find him. Shoot what you want but get informed on what you got in your rifle.
