Flash rust.......have to patch dry the boreimmediately after coming out of the hot water rinse.
Then let it lay for 5 minutes for the residual heat to bone dry the bore...then plaster the borebutter to it...3-4 applications of a lube patch with BB heavily spread all over it with a putty knife or popsicle stick, etc.
After reading your posts and methods of application Roundball. I am sure the reason I failed when using bore butter is I must not have used enough bore butterwhen I coated the barrel. I used maybe two patches smeared with bore butter on them, but never took apopsicle stick or putty knife and packed that kind or amount into the barrel.
Now I agree that I also used VERY HOT to almost BOILING water to prepare the barrel for the application and to make sure it was bone dry. I think I just could not make myself put that much bore butter into the barrel.
