Get a bar of soap and run it over the last 8 inches or so of the shaft.....
I tried that once , gave the old lady the damndest rash ... 
A spritz of fine machine oil like 3 in 1 on the last 8" of the
arrow shaft helps , but DC's soap idea is easier to clean up .
