I have waited to add my answer because I didn't know if what I did was kosher. The last ML I pieced together - I decided to do just what you are suggesting. I got a white Green Mountain barrel blank, and I decided that I would move the rear sight forward because of my eyes. I only needed to move it about 2" but it certainly did help. I really enjoy shooting that Hawken even with low light now.
