Default RE: 308 vs 243 for hunting and target

ORIGINAL: Raptor 1

sorry guys, I should have been more clear. The range I belong to has long range competition for standard hunting rifles only. The targets are a maximum of 500 yds. and as close as 100 yds. The rifle can not be altered, or can it have a heavy barrel. I can use any scope I desire. I guess my question is what t3 would be better for this type of shooting, the 308, or 243. The one I use for long range target, I will put a 4x16 power mil-dot scope.R1
If your "long range" competition is limited to 500 yards, either caliber will suffice. The .308 with a 168-grain match bullet will have less wind drift, so requires less wind doping at 500 yards than the .243. On a calm day, either one will work pretty much the same. Since the .243 has less recoil, a lot of people can shoot better with that round!
