i bough this cloth from midway. i forgot the name but i used it on my late grandpa's model 12 shotgun. cleaned all the rust off without ruining the finish.
i think it was called " magic cloth " i have a few of them.
with steel wool get the finnest you can find sometimes it can make more scratche in the steel causing more areas to invite rust down the road. has happened to me.
