Sounds great DC! I shot some yesterday (Sunday), at an informal "tournament" at a friend's house--it's a regular Sunday thing when hunting season is over. We have a lot of improvised targets there--most are 3-D, but also some flat targets and a few novelties. For instance, one of the deer targets has a ball cap on--hit the hat, you get extra points. We also have a few tennis balls, paint can lids, etc.

I know what you mean about the gimmee shots--one of my nemesis! Like yesterday--shot under a walking bear target (shoud have been able to nail it with my eyes closed), but hit the ball cap, one small lid, and a tennis ball--go figure! I've done it at tournaments too--last year at the JPM at Enid I missed the easiest shot on the course--I think you just take those shots for granted and don't concentrate at all.
