Default RE: Anyone ever use Hornady .452 230 gr. LRN?

Thanks Lee and Roskoe.I still haven't determined if the 295 PB's (my nephew's load) are going to group well beyond 50 yards on the light charge (65 grains RS). At 50 yards, they were grouping 1 3/4 to 2" while 245 ballets were grouping 1" to 1 1/4. I don't know if it wasme, the range conditions, or the PBs, and I don't know if the PB's will really widen further out. When I get the Sidekick back, I have considered trying the 230 grain LRN's, if the PB's fail to group at 75-80 yards less than 3" spread. The 245 grain Ballets average 1600 fps on 65 grains RS. I thought, figuring the weight of the sabot, I may get a similar velocity with the 230 LRN.

It's a pretty light load, but I plan to spend a lot of time with him at the range, he is young, never actually fired a rifle before, so I don't want to punish him with a heavy load. For $13 a box of 200, we could do alot of practice for not too much cost. And, owing to better BC, should actually deliver a little more energyat 100 yards than the295PB.

Would the Harvester .452 sabot work with them?

Happy Hunting, Phil
