Monocacy Valley Chapter of the Wild Turkey Federation is once again holding their JAKES event on April 1 at the Woodmont Rod & Gun Club in Handcock, Maryland. Registration is 8am - 9am and the program runs till about 1PM.

This event is FREE for kids ages 6 to 16. Participants will learn about the wild turkeys natural habitat, learn how to set up and pratice the use of calls. They also will learn firearm safety and shotgun patterning including live fire if they wish. To insure safety during the live fire event we provide everything including one-on-one training. DNR should once again be there to demostrate the use of their cannon capture net. Lunch will be provided and 4 lucky kids who have completed the hunter safety course will each win a guided hunt on the Woodmont grounds during youth day.

While I'm not a member of NWTF I have been volunteering as one of the firearms instructors for several years and can say we average about 80 kids.

Directions: Interstate 68 west of Hancock,Md. Take exit 77 to U.S. 40East. Almost immediately turn right onto Woodmont Rd. Follow signs to lodge.
