RE: Old School or New School
Good posts mobowhunter and LouisianaTomkat. You too, Arthur. I use a compound, camo, Scentlok. I don't use a gps, 4wheeler, rangefinder, etc. I think alot of us would love to hunt like the Indians. All the time. Can't imagine anything I'd rather do. They got to enjoy something they had to do to survive. That was one of their jobs. Work, wife, kids, job, keeping up with the house and yard - these things take up alot of our time nowadays. Most of us don't get to spend the time practicing with a longbow or recurve needed to morally shoot at an animal. And the time we get to spend in the field makes it hard to take a chance on a missed opportunity. Then there is the problem of where to hunt. Land is getting scarcer by the day. Alot of us are hunting small acreage where we can't stalk or hunting public land where it may be too dangerous or stepping on each others toes. If I had started shooting bows when I was 5 or 10 or whatever, I may have gotten good enough to have retained those skills today to shoot a long bow or recurve even with all the other stuff taking up my time. I just got a recurve not too long ago and am getting better with it. I don't know if I will hunt with it or not. Primarily because my hunting opportunities seem to be getting less and less. I enjoy my time in the field more than just killing something but I also want to get some meat. If I get a buck, great, but a doe is just fine. Shooting the recurve is a pure joy but I also like shooting the compound. If Scentlok helps me avoid detection when I'm limited to where I can sit, then great. I really could care less how someone else legally hunts. Good for them. I would hope they would have the same respect for me.
