If I was carring my Ruger 9MM in bear country, I want penetration. A good heavy FMJ penterates big time in the 9MM. HP's for Human varmits FMJ's for animal type varmits. The 146 grain hard cast feeds well in my Ruger and I believe you would get excellent penetration and a bit of expansion.
