And you thought you had bad luck!
I have been after a monster buck for the last three years. Sunday afternoon I went out in further pursuit of him. However, all I saw were a couple of does. Where I hunt is mainly flat. On oneside of the property is a swamp then about 100yards of oaks then a cornfield thats 200 yards wide and 500 yards long. On the other side of the corn is another stretch of oaks with a stream in the middle. On the other side of that is a beanfield that about 300 acres. I couldn't have designed a better spot. Anyway heres the bad luck part of the story. Theres a state route on the end of the property that I park by. On my way back to my truck at dark I jumped a deer but could not see what it was. A few seconds later a semi comes down the road and I hear a crack like someone pulled out and got hit. So I run over and guess what. That monster buck I have been chasing is laying on the gaurdrail. He was absolute mush. I grabed his antlers and one side just pulled out of his head. He is a non-typical 12 point with two droptines. One is 8 and a half inches and the other is just over 9 inches. As I sat there all I could think of was This monster should not have gone this way. It brought a tear to my eyes.
