FSH:

If I can't get anything off the roost and have to start off "blind". I will call using a loud cutt or an owl call, then walk about 100 yards and call again.

If I hear a bird, I try to range him. Then, I make a decision to move closer WITHOUT CALLING UNTIL I GET SET UP. Or I just get set up and call to him, if he is already close enough.

So, I think I do the same as you do. I took this guys post as him doing the same thing. Maybe he means that he calls while he is STEPPING? I don't know. Here in SC, you can't shoot a hen period. So, I think its pretty safe for now. I might change my mind if something happens, but so far nothing hasn't and I think God for that.
