The north or ( yank) comments are only in fun. just a little poking, a way to get this thread jumping.
But I really do see a trend, guys up north like big big guns, down south or here in Texas espicially, I see a lot of smaller calibers, down to the 22-250 , 222, 223 being used. I have never disscused marginal or room for error shots, until i got on this board. Seems a lot of people here will take any shot because they are using a 30-06 or whatever. It's always brought up, room for error or marginal shot placement.
Here is my thought on this. Yes I'm sure you see a lot of people using 22-250, 222, 223 which are smaller cartridges. You are also shooting at smaller deer, correct? I have seen many bucks up here in the 275-300 pound range. Whats a big buck down their, 175?
But it is really a moot point for me. I'm limited to shotgun only. Not too many animals in North America can take a well place .50 slug and not drop pretty quick.LOL
But I agree with you on one point. I see too many times where hunters make a bad shot. And mostly because they never take the time to become profficient with their weapon. It is very common up here where a sabot slug will run you $2-3/round. The guys get cheap and don't shoot enough. Just enough to get their gun sighted in. And they fail to take into account the wind factor on those big, heavy, slow slugs.JMHO
