Default RE: Banff in June

Banff is great all year round. You can fly fish in the Bow river, you can play golf amoung the herds of elk, you can shop hike and whitewater raft.

I have been there mostly on business, and we stayed at the world famous Banff Springs hotel that I highly recomend, though it is damn expensive, it is really a major part of the Banff experience. I had passed through a number of times, and wondered what all the fuss was about as far as the town is concerned, though the location is tremendous. The hotel will change your point of view.

Banff is near Lake Louis, and Jasper (a bit of a drive). Both have word famous hotels of their own. If you are planing on staying in hotels I would see if you could stay at each one.

Like a lot of mountain parks, for instance, Glacier, this is a great place to view "wild" animals. You will see elk, deer, goat, and often large bears.

Don't expect these places to be wilderness preserves, they are tourist traps, with lots of inbound tours from places like Japan. The Banff Springs hotel has/had a tartan shop that opens only to receive Japanese tours.

I would not make heavy financial comitments relative to the the first week of June, vs the last. Banff is about 4500 ft, and you can get dodgy weather in the spring. Average temps daytime should be around 68, at night more like 45.
