Okay to answer your question bluntly, Yes hitting a turkey in the head with a .22 is a challenge but you can do that beyond shotgun range so I like the added challenge to pull them under shotgun range. That's where it ends. Too many variables of wounding a turkey with a .22 so if you want that challenge, I would definately recommend a larger caliber to lower the chance of wounding. If you can hit them with a .22, you should be able to do the same with let say a .22-250, .222, .223 or the likes.
