About the only thing I have against the 710 is that its really ugly looking. I've never had to rebarrel a rifle and don't forsee doing so in my lifetime, and if I ever have a desire to build a custum rifle its going to be on a pre64 Win or Mauser 98 action anyway, not a rem 710.
As far as not having a smooth bolt goes, big deal, you want to make your first shot the best shot possible anyway. How smooth the bolt throws isn't going to be an issue with hunting but mere asthetics.

Sometimes I wonder if this board isn't seeded with sales reps for Savage. Everyone recommends a Savage for everything.
