What about a used gun, in good condition. I started out with a 760 308, it worked real well for me. I then went to 7600 270, both were used guns in prem. condition. Since then I have evolved to higher end guns and bolts, but would never rule out buying a used good condition bolt. Many guys buy guns for 1 or 2 boxes a year, so getting them even 20 years old they still have plenty of life, eventually you can rebarrel if needed or make a custom to shoot how you want it.

I personally don't like the looks, finish or feel of the 710 and given the choice the ADL would be mine. However guns are personable, if they fit and feel ok in both price and actual then who really cares what I or anybody else thinks!!!!

"i dont like the 710, i just dont like people calling it as useful a peice of scrap metal." But that is about what it amounts to. And since when has one shot 1.5" groups at 100 yards? More like 3 to 4" in the specimen I evaluated. Not to mention the fact that the bolt started binding after a few rounds.

Sooner, The Winchester Black Shadow is a model 70 with a synthetic stock, blind magazine and matte finish. It is basically an all wheather rifle, good shooter as most model 70's are. It is available at Wal-Mart for around $369.00.

FIGHTS,

THANK YOU!!! Seriously, Thank you. Good, straight shooting answer. You are alright for a Yankee. If we'd had a few of you on our side old George Pickett would have made it over the fence. ) Things work out the way they're supposed to.

The 700 ADL is a much better gun for what, 50-100 bucks more. Of course you will then need to buy a scope since the ADL doesn't come with one. But I bet you would be upgrading that scope on the 710 before too long anyway. Go to a store and work the bolts on several different rifles. Even someone who knows absolutely nothing about guns can tell that the 710 is a very cheap gun.

First of all I am not defending this no good POS disguised as a hunting rifle. If memory serves me correctly Originally(remington) had a real tight bolt to reciever fit that would gradually break in after about 200 rounds were fired thru it. They got so many phone calls complaining about this "feature" that they had to loosen tolerances a tad. I would hate to find out what Remington spent developing this rifle and why they could have not pursued another angle. Spend a few bucks more and buy a Ruger,Savage,Howa,Winchester new or one of these makes usedd and you will be the happier for it.
