Default RE: 40 acres baby!

Congrats on having a shot at a darn good deal. That's about what the price of woods in southern Illinois used to be before things got crazy.

I think that all of the hunting you described can be done on 40 acres. I only own 19, but can squirrel hunt all morning and only cover a small portion of it. Ditto for deer and turkey. By "driving," I assume that you mean using several people to push game a particular direction, or do you mean using dogs. As another poster indicated, the latter would cause problems. The former would be effective, if its legal in your area.

Dunno how things are in your state, but I believe that people would be required by law to give you at least one easement route on to the property, although that can get sticky if people want to be jerks. That is an issue to get clarified very quickly, especially if you plan to haul a camper back there. On that note, I don't think haveing a camp in one corner of the property would effect the hunting on much of it. On my little piece of land, I can run a chain saw all morning, then take a hike and jump deer that were bedding down 200 yards from where I was working.
