RE: crossbow or compound bow?
Don't let others put you down.
If you don't feel confident enough about using a compound, then use a crossbow.
While some will argue that crossbows have an advantage over crossbows, IMO any advantage that they may have is not enough to take away significantly from the challenge of bowhunting.Having the same effective range and limitations on having to kill the animal in the same fashion, you still have to incur many of the same challenges that bowhunting incurs. Some will claim that you don't have to draw back and hold with a crossbow, but IMO if having to draw and hold vs not having to draw and hold separates what is challenging from what is not then those who believe so are narrow minded IMO.
