First of all, what a fantastic picture! I love seeing the actual habitat a trophy comes from, like sheer rock walls!
I believe you said the goat hide was already tanned? If so, in my opinion, the very best way to store it long term is to soak it up to rehydrate it, then drain it off and bag it and store it in the freezer. Leatherized hides have a finite shelf life. What I mean is, they need to have memory, to be pliable, have stretch, yet strength, while we mount them, then after that to remain stable so the mount holds up. A good tan will have these characteristics. The workability doesnt last forever, like the stability will, thus the shelf life. Thats why I suggest storing them frozen. Thats worked well for me with my 18 month plus return times, as well as with customers who are indecided as to what direction to go.
