Yeah....We had one die on us like that, one time.

We were raising hydrilla...down by the reservoir....and my buddy says "come over here". I dropped the fresh turkey I was cleaning (hell it was July and hot, anyways)....and went over to where he was. He had his .22 rifle out....and was shooting at this buck that was swimming across the lake. We couldn't tell if he was hitting it....or if the buck was just dodging the shots that were ricocheting around him.

Well.....we saw him get out of the water....and head for the thicket. It was close to dark.....so we went in and got the spotlight and the assault rifle. When we spotlighted the thicket.....we couldn't tell which deer he was....so we shot 'em all. It was more fun than catching spring trout and throwing 'em back out there and re-catching 'em.

That venison was good with the spotted owl soup.
