I help teach a hunter saftey course,there was a post about a 14 year old being shot by his dad in ohio, well i printed the posting and took in to the class and read it and also read the response's from all of you it got thier attention,well 2 day's after reading it we decided to set up a mock hunt using 3d target's and paintball gun's as the weapon's, and we also set up 3 of our 3d's on a moving trolley so they would be coming out of the tall grass and around a group of tree's. We have 11 kid's and 4 adult's in our program and we sent them 1 at a time through the course getting scored on each station as they went through the course and came up on the one's that move is where we wanted to really observe now we had a couple guy's in camo on a couple of the station's hide and had them slowly move when some one came to that station, now one of the guy's carried a set of rattling antler's and when he would walk out of the tall grass he would pause and have the antler's in front of him just enough so they could be seen and then would step out sudden like.Now out of the group 2 fired when the guy stepped out and 1 fired when the antler's where showed now the one's who did well were rewarded with thier saftey permit's the one's who shot before the target was identified failed,2 out of the 3 were adult's and are mad and claim it is not right to fail them,would like your opion's on this if it sound's like a good teaching tool then we are going to try to make it a requirement part of hunter saftey program through the state and will use your opion's as ammo for it thank's
