RE: Model 70 actions
Can someone back up a few steps and explain Winchester bolt actions in even simpler terms for an avid hunter like me who just uses the gun and really doesn't know that much about it (I bought my M70 30-06 in the early 80s used just because it was in good condition and I could afford it - that's the only thought I put into it... but it works very well, lucky for me!)
I understand that there is a basic difference between my early 80s vintage model 70 bolt and the "pre-64" bolts. I also know that they've started selling the pre-64 type bolt in new guns. From the above discussion, I think I now understand that there's a 3rd type of bolt action, a hybrid?
So, in real simple terms, what are the types of actions, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
Thanks much!
