Default Just In Case You Hit A Deer With Your Vehicle

This is a post from another message board I visit from time to time. I don't know what state this is in so laws are going to vary:

"So, I went hunting this afternoon. Saw a good number of deer, but no antlers. On my way home, a car infront of me hits a deer. They stopped, and I pulled over to see if they needed help. They were okay and calling home. The deer was laying in the middle of the road, flopping around a bit, still alive, but obviously hurting and definitely not going to make it. On top of that, the thing is still in the middle of the road. If someone comes along and swerves to miss it, they could hit us or one of the many trees and hurt themselves. So, I go into my trunk, load one round into my rifle, and put the poor thing out of its misery and dragged it off to the side of the road. I stayed with the guy (older guy, say near 70) until his ride and the tow truck arrives. Right behind the tow truck is the local DEC officer. He takes a look at the deer, and wants to know what happened. The old guy tells him, then the DEC guy asks me. I tell him what happened as well, the whole thing. THE SOB THEN PROCEEDS TO WRITE ME A TICKET!!! He gave me a ticket for killing a doe without a license, at night, while travelling with a loaded weapon in my car (which is completely untrue, I NEVER do that, and didn't this night, and he wasn't even there to know). So, I'm facing like a grand in fines, loss of hunting license for 5 years and legal fees because I tried to do what I thought was the right thing. He took my hunting license, so I can't hunt for the rest of the year, or fish, and I have to wait until Monday before I can even call anyone about this. I guess the good news, if there is any, is that he didn't take my gun and car.

Sometimes, the law is just plain stupid, and the people they hire are even worse."
