The 300 Wby. with a 165gr. bullet is plenty powerful for elk. I also believe in premium bullets like the Barnes X and Nosler Partitions etc., but that 165gr. bullet in 300 Wby. will do the trick as long as your shot placement is proper. No matter how powerful your cartridge of choice is, nothing makes up for a misplaced shot.
