Don't draw the bow back until you are ready to shoot if possible. In my experience you are more likely to try a "less than perfect" shot when you've been at full draw for awhile.
You can also figure if it is a less than perfect hit with a bow you can bet he'll more than likely feed the coyotes than you... and who wants to do that?
