Default RE: Question on German Shorthair Pointers

Swanscott,
Ive had GSP's for 34 years. You have asked one of the age old question in which makes a better hunting dog whichthere is no answer...there are plenty of opinions...thats all. I am..(my opinoin) partial to males but have had a few good bitches too.The most important thing you can do right now!...is toget involved or in contact with a local Navhda chapter & find out who in your area breeds Navhda trained dogs!AKC Master hunters are also very good dogs but stay away from those who breed dogs just to get a JH (junior hunter) so they can sell "hunting dogs".

Then comes the hardest part...picking one. I know Navhda senior judges who breed & will spend 2-4 hours each day watching a particular litter just to find out (guess in most cases) which is or are going to be the best hunter out of the litter. Bottom line is when you purchase a well bred pointing dog (hopefully from Navhda stock) the trainability that comes with theses dogs is unbeliveable compared to many of the dogs I've had 12-15 years ago.

Good Luck...any questions feel free to ask...oh yeah..go to Navhda.org
