I like to be in the 18-22ft range but personally i think a treestand serves two main purposes: concealment and better range of vision. This being the case, I dont know how much more concealment you will be getting at 9 ft but anything helps when it comes to improvement on your field of view. This being said, its better than nothing! Its only 9ft but you wont believe how much more you can see.
