zrex, how about bullet construction? the most damage I ever saw out of hundreds of deer was with a handgun in a wildcat 7mm cal, 120 gr hornady SSPB, that buck was "jelly" from hams to shoulders.

Of course bullet construction plays a big part, but what your talking about above is usually associated with high velocity. slower heavy bullets just dont do that type of damage.
