Try the old ball & dummy routine. Have somebody else load your rifle for you. Tell them to either chamber a live round or close the bolt on an empty chamber. Don't watch what he's doing or check the chamber before firing the rifle. Have him (or her) stand off to the side and watch you, especialy your trigger finger. You'll see whats happening the first time you drop the hammer on an empty chamber. Ever concider a muzzle brake? I've got one on my Weatherby .300. I would shoot 18 rounds off a bench at 300 yards, then move over to the 200 yard range and shoot another 20 working on my sitting & kneeling position, with only a tee shirt on without any ill effects. You can have a thread protector cap made to use in the field when hunting if your sensitive to the noise.
