RE: Magnum shootin
I installed a muzzle brake on my .300 Ultra Mag BDL to accomidate my bench shooting style. I normaly leave my left hand on the rifle rest under the forearm. Tried that with the Ultra Mag and got a rude awakening. The recoil caused my trigger finger to trip the floorplate release, and the sharply knurrled bolt knob to gouge some skin off the same finger. After 20 rounds of that, I ordered a Vais muzzle brake from Brownells. I can hear the murmuring in the background, but the ultra's loud enough to damage your hearing with or without a brake. IMO, anything over a .300 Win mag is going to cause you to change your grip when shooting off a bench. Can't get away with what you could shooting a "milder recoiling rifle".
