I have never used open sights on a slug gun, so I can't compare. I have a cantilever barrel on my 11-87 with a 1.75-4x bushnel trophy scope. I think this is the perfect setup for a slug gun, and I highly recommend it. I usually shoot 3 inch groups at 100 yds.
