A buddy of mine has been watching some bucks in an alfala field from the highway near his house. Thursday night he watched the field with a spotting scope and watched three really nice bucks feeding in it until dark. First thing the next morning he headed to town, and as he passed the field, he spotted a really nice buck lying dead in the field about 50 yards from the highway. He stopped to check it out and it had been hit by a car, he called the local game warden, and he came out and issued him a permit to keep it, so he took the antlers to a taxidermist to have the velvet preserved. I guess this is one he wont be chasing this fall. While we were at the taxidernist, he taped it with the velvet at 143 4/8 inches, not bad at all..
