If you are talking about public land, the Everglades and Francis S. Taylor WMA and the Green Swamp WMA are in the vicinity. You can log on to
www.wildflorida.org/hunting for more details. The problem with that particular area right now is flooding. Effective on July 18, 2005, the Florida Wildlife Commission entered an emergency order prohibiting all hunting, boating and recreational activities in the area to protect deerdue to unusually high water levels. The order remains in effect until further notice. In times of flooding like this, the deer become stressed and congregate on tree islands.Human activity forces them into the high water where they can starve or get sick or drown. The water level could go down in a couple of weeks, or it could stay high for awhile if more storms come through.
