I agree with Rob...but.

Some mechanicals may be fine for larger game but IMO you need a ton of ke for a pass through.

If I were set on a mechanical for elk I would look at some of the smaller cutting diameter heads out there.

The Rocket Steelhead comes to mind but there are others that will do a good job with a well tuned set up.

Do a search on the topic as 5 shot has done many tests on mechanicals and his word means a lot.
